HR from the Outside In, a book written by Dave Ulrich and others, expands the HR profession by recommending the “new HR competencies. While I don’t like jumping on every band wagon, I admit I was hooked right away and am excited to explore each one. The competencies they have identified for the “future of HR” include: credible activist, strategic positioner, capability builder, change champion, human resource integrator and innovator, and technology proponent.
If you are not ready to commit to a book this time of year, check out the website “Toolkits” page, which has some excellent videos and tools that will get you thinking about whether you demonstrate these skills in your professional life, and will further expand your knowledge about these development areas. I strongly recommend it for everyone, experienced or new to HR, and will be working my way through them this month.
To being a credible activist!
